Steering Committee

The Schemes’ Director is advised by a Steering Committee composed of H&I experts.  The Committee reports to the UK NEQAS Executive Board.  The groups remit is to advise the Service Director on the overall design and operation of the Service, including aspects such as:

  • Appropriateness of the investigations surveyed
  • Number and frequency of specimen distribution
  • Data analysis, performance assessment and data presentation
  • Communication with participants, (meetings and educational activities)
  • Communication with the diagnostics industry
  • Research and development for the Service
  • Communication with professional societies (e.g. BSHI, EFI)
  • the need for initiation or termination of EQA schemes
  • To review the Service’s annual reports
  • Planning requirements for the schemes
  • Identification and resolution of any difficulties expected in the preparation and maintenance of homogenous proficiency test items
  • Comments on any technical difficulties or other remarks raised by participants in previous proficiency testing rounds
  • Provision of advice in evaluating the performance of participants
  • Comments on the results and performance of participants
  • Provision of advice for participants (within the limits of confidentiality), either individually or within the report
  • Responding to feedback from participants
  • Planning or participating in technical meetings with participants

The Steering Committee’s constitution, including accountability, remit, composition, membership and finance are essentially as laid down in the UK NEQAS Executive’s document “Steering Committees” latest revision, October 2004 (available from UK NEQAS).

The 5B HFE Expert Advisors comprise a sub-group within the Committee.
