UK NEQAS work collaboratively with a number of organisations to further scientific development in the field of H&I.
UK NEQAS for H&I have a long standing relationship with the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) providing expert advice and assistance with the development of a number of international standards, for example, the flow cytometry positive and negative controls. We have also been able to share opportunities to be involved in international collaborative studies to evaluate new reference material with our participants.
UK NEQAS for H&I have also worked alongside the British Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (BSHI) Research Executive performing an investigation into how UK and Ireland (UK&I) based H&I laboratories define unacceptable antigens for patients requiring solid organ transplantation. A survey was sent to all H&I laboratories within the UK&I and the responses used to inform a special interest group concentrating of the classification of unacceptable antigens.
